La GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University was one of 18 agencies and universities recognized in Oregon at an awards ceremony following the Governor’s State Employees Food Drive earlier this month.
The ceremony acknowledged the contributions of various state agencies and universities, including Eastern Oregon University, for participating in this year’s food drive. The university received a 2nd Place for Most Meals Per Employee. The campaign raised millions of meals for Oregon’s hungry.
Matt Gougherty, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Jennifer Puentes, Associate Professor of Sociology, and EOU student Mat Page led the effort by EOU.
Eastern Oregon University (EOU) faculty and staff generously donated 83 pounds of food and $3,984, providing 12,014 meals to needy individuals. Each participating employee helped feed 34 people.
The event also recognized individual ‘Food Drive Heroes’ for their dedication and effort in supporting the food drive. Among those recognized were Kristie Hardy and Spencer Ellis from the Oregon Department of Transportation, Dillon Neumann from the Oregon Department of Forestry, and Juan Morales from the Oregon Department of Human Services.
