Eastern Oregon University Hosts Free Government Ethics Training

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University (EOU) will host a unique opportunity for public officials to enhance their knowledge of government ethics. In collaboration with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission (OGEC), EOU will host a series of free training sessions on September 4, 2024, at the Hoke Union Building on the campus of EOU. This event is open to all public officials, including employees, volunteers, elected officials, and appointed officials from any agency, county, department, board, or other public entity.

This training will cover crucial aspects of ethical practices in public service, including Conflicts of Interest, Prohibited Use of Office, Private Employment, Nepotism, Gifts, and Statements on Economic Interests. Participants will benefit from real-life examples, interactive discussions, and an open time for questions.

Sessions:

  • 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM
  • 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM
  • 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM
  • 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM

This live, interactive 2.5-hour training session is designed to provide public officials with valuable insights into government ethics, enhancing their knowledge and understanding of ethical practices. The training will cover the following topics contained in ORS Chapter 244 / OAR Chapter 199. The training is particularly advantageous for nonprofit boards and other organizations that only sometimes have access to in-person training from OGEC.
