LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University invites the public to explore how interdisciplinary collaboration drives human progress. On Thursday, November 14 at 4 p.m., join Assistant Professor Dr. John Lundy in Ackerman Hall, room 210, for a colloquium titled, “The Transformational Role of Interdisciplinarity in Human Progress.”
Lundy, Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies, will discuss value theory—the pursuit of understanding what makes a good life—and the need for social changes to foster well-being. He will highlight how interdisciplinary problem-solving, combining expertise from various fields and community input, drives progress.
“An account of progress requires us to reach some shared understanding of human past, present, and future.” Dr. Lundy said, “It requires us to reach conclusions about the way the world is, the way the world ought to be, and the best way of moving from the former to the later. How do we go about answering such questions? How, to put a point on it, can we achieve progress? My overarching aim is to approach an answer to these fundamental questions.”
Attendees will learn new ways of understanding human progress through both theory and practice. Lundy will explain how the concept of the “lifeworld,” tied to democratic ideals, is essential to our future. He will also present a model of interdisciplinary problem-solving to address societal challenges.
Lundy’s talk will show how these approaches can make systems fairer and communities stronger. Don’t miss this chance to think beyond boundaries and reimagine real progress.
