MINOR REQUIREMENTS CHECK SHEET

Program Requirements:

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Minor is a minimum 30 credit hour minor. 28 credits must be upper division. A grade of “C-” or better is required for each course counting towards the minor, but a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.00 is required for completion of the minor.

A minimum of 15 credit hours counting toward the minor must be completed at Eastern Oregon University.

All transfer courses must be approved by the ESOL program coordinator, a syllabus is required for each ESOL course.

ESOL program practica (90 hours) must be completed at EOU, which includes ED 421, 421L and ED 479.

The ESOL minor prepares future teachers with the ESOL skills needed to successfully instruct English Learners from all over the world. It is a useful minor for those who wish to teach English in linguistically diverse schools in the United States, and for those who wish to teach English as a foreign language in another country. In addition, this minor provides opportunities for students in a variety of programs to learn more about diversity in the United States in the meaningful context of language studies.
