Steps to Become a Student Employee


Engaging in student employment at EOU is an ideal way for students to begin their career development journey. Students will gain transferable employment skills, develop their career-readiness competencies, build their network, and earn a wage to support them financially throughout their college journey. Career Services promotes student employment to all students.


Step 1: Are You Ready for Employment?

  • Career Services expects you to be engaging in employment during your college journey
  • Have identification materials ready for onboarding. In order to get hired, it will be required to provide payroll with a combination of these documents in their original form (no scanned copies): Passport, Driver’s License, Social Security Card, a voided check to set up direct deposit
  • Prepare your application materials: resume and cover letter. If you do not have these documents prepared, visit the career center for help, or, check out examples on the job-search website here

Step 2: Access the EOU Student Employment Job Board

  • Navigate to the EOU Career Services Website
  • Find the “Mounties Work” button at the top of the screen
  • Select the I’m looking For… EOU Student Employment button
  • Under the student resources column, select the “Step 3: Check out the EOU Student Employment Job Board” button

Step 3: Search for Student Employment Positions

  • Search through available positions, making sure to read through the full job descriptions. We recommend you copy the links to any job postings you find interesting and save them in a word document
  • Determine what positions you are qualified for, based on the information provided in both the minimum and preferred qualifications sections, and required knowledge, skills, and abilities section
  • If you need assistant determining your eligibility for a position, contact the career center

Step 4: Create Application Materials

  • Most student employment positions will require both a resume and cover letter for applying. Take a look at your documents and make necessary changes in order to tailor your resume to the position. Example resumes can be found here
  • If you would like to review your materials with the Career Center, contact careers@eou.edu, or schedule and appointment with the Career Center

Step 5: Apply to Positions

  • Once your application materials are prepared, follow to “how to apply” instruction outlined on the job posting. Most often, you will be asked to email your documents to the hiring supervisor/hiring manager
  • When emailing documents, download them as a word document or pdf- refrain from attaching google documents
  • Prepare a professional email with your documents attached
