You will receive job-specific training provided by the Campus Safety & Security Department and participate in University-wide training events. These experiences will help you build professional competencies such as communication, problem-solving, and crisis management, preparing you for diverse career paths in security, law enforcement, and emergency management.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Conduct random and scheduled physical security patrols of the campus and associated buildings and grounds, looking for safety or security issues.
– Report findings to the Director or designee and take appropriate action as instructed.
– Respond to calls for service received from the security phone or radios.
– Provide assistance to others as needed (e.g., give directions, provide access to buildings, provide security escorts).
– Provide a uniformed security presence at university and community events.
– Report unusual circumstances to the Director of Security immediately.
– Notify local police of observed suspicious activities, persons, or conditions.
– Monitor security cameras for suspicious or unsafe behavior and report issues.
– Lock and unlock university buildings, rooms, and gates according to established schedules and as requested.
– Maintain accurate patrol logs daily.
– Communicate verbally and in writing with fellow security personnel and the security director.
– Attend training as assigned.
– Conduct parking enforcement and support parking operations as needed.
– Support facilities by placing cones and barricades for maintenance or repairs.
– Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:– This position is open to second-year students (sophomore) and higher.
– Excellent writing skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
– Strong computer skills or the ability and desire to learn these skills.
– Flexibility in scheduling and reliably showing up for scheduled shifts.
– Willingness and ability to work variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:– Experience in safety and security work.

– This position requires the willingness and ability to work variable shifts at any time of the day or night, as well as holidays, nights, and weekends when needed
