Experiential Leaning:As a Student Assistant Editor, you will gain practical experience in managing and producing academic journals. You will work on editing and compiling manuscripts, maintaining the journals’ webpage, and communicating with authors. This role provides an excellent opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge from your studies to real-world publishing tasks, enhancing your understanding of the editorial process and project management.
Professional Development:This position offers numerous professional development opportunities. You will receive job-specific training provided by the English/Writing Program CAHSS and participate in University-wide training events. Additionally, you will have access to multicultural-sponsored training activities, career exploration activities via Career Services, and resume reviews with Career Services and/or WorkSource Oregon. These experiences will help you build professional competencies such as communication, leadership, and time management, preparing you for diverse career paths in publishing and related fields.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Maintain and update the journals’ webpage.
– Edit and compile manuscripts for publication.
– Communicate effectively with authors to discuss changes and updates to submissions.
– Liaise with the printer to ensure timely and quality publication.
– Manage and update the journals’ cabinet in Badgely Hall.
– Attend and contribute to journal meetings.
– Transition into the role of Editor following the current editor’s departure.
Minimum Qualifications:– Full-time on-campus student with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Preferred Qualifications:– Interest in publishing or previous publishing experience.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Proficiency with desktop publishing programs.
– Ability to maintain webpages.
– Strong communication skills and effective time management.
– Ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
