As a Student Intern in EOU’s Human Resources Department, you will gain real-world experience in HR operations while supporting critical university functions. Experiential Learning:You will learn valuable recruitment strategies by participating in the hiring process and gaining insight into candidate assessment alongside experienced HR professionals. Additionally, you will manage employee documentation, a critical component of HR, by helping to digitize and maintain personnel files. Through involvement in strategic projects like onboarding and orientation, you’ll develop essential problem-solving skills and enhance your ability to work collaboratively across different departments. The hands-on nature of this position will allow you to connect your coursework with real-world applications, equipping you with employability skills such as communication, time management, and teamwork which are crucial for your future career in HR or related fields.
Professional Development:You will gain experience working with HR information systems like Banner and Laserfiche, building technical proficiency in data management and HR operations. The role also provides exposure to HR best practices, such as ensuring compliance with employment laws, navigating the complexities of employee onboarding, and utilizing HR analytics to support decision-making. Through this internship, you’ll develop strong communication skills by collaborating with various departments across the university. In addition to department-specific training, you will have access to broader professional development opportunities offered by EOU, helping you grow in leadership, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making, all of which will serve you well in your future career.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:· HR Administration (75%-85%): Assist with the creation and management of personnel files, data reporting, and maintaining HR documentation.
· Special Projects (15%-25%): Participate in initiatives focused on onboarding and candidate assessment. Work with cross-functional teams to address HR challenges and develop innovative solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:– Federal Work-Study eligibility
– Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
– Strong organizational and communication skills
– Ability to operate document management systems such as scanners and PCs
Preferred Qualifications:– Prior experience in office management, HR, or recruitment
– Familiarity with employment law and HR systems such as Banner and Laserfiche
– Experience with candidate assessment and onboarding
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Group problem-solving skills
– Knowledge of HR regulations and training practices
– Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
