Experiential Leaning:As a Computer Science Department Student Worker, you will gain practical experience in software development and analysis. You will work on projects such as evaluating interactive development environments, automated software assessment systems, electronic interactive textbooks, and cloud development environments. This role will help you develop technical skills and apply theoretical knowledge from your coursework to real-world tasks.
Professional Development:This position offers numerous professional development opportunities. You will receive job-specific training provided by the Computer Science Department and participate in University-wide training events. Additionally, you will have access to multicultural-sponsored training activities, career exploration activities via Career Services, and resume reviews with Career Services and/or WorkSource Oregon. These experiences will help you build professional competencies such as project management, technical communication, and collaboration, preparing you for diverse career paths in software development and technology.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Work with CS instructors to identify software tools in areas such as interactive development environments (IDEs), automated software assessment systems, -electronic interactive textbooks, and cloud development environments.
– Analyze software tools to determine hardware and software requirements, compare features, assess reliability and stability, and evaluate integration with the Canvas LMS.
– Develop prototypical and production installations of software tools in the EOU computing environment.
– Develop a CS Department website, including assets such as advising information, software tools video tutorials, how-to guides for text editors and the Linux file system, email etiquette, and helpful links.
Minimum Qualifications:– Attending EOU and enrolled in a minimum of six (6) academic credits.
– In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
– Junior, Senior, or Post-Baccalaureate standing.
Preferred Qualifications:– Satisfactory completion of CS 260 and CS 221 or equivalents.
– Demonstrated ability to write technical documentation clearly and accurately.
– Time management skills and self-motivation to complete tasks.
– Proficient at solving computer software problems.
– Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Strong technical proficiency, particularly in software development and analysis.
– Experience or strong interest in web development and managing content management systems.
– Good understanding of computer science concepts and software evaluation.
– Ability to create clear, user-friendly documentation and tutorials.
– Skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and project management.
