Experiential Leaning:As a member of the Student Council for Multicultural Affairs (SCMA), you will gain hands-on experience in promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives. You will support cultural programs, address student issues, and serve as a campus resource for advocacy. This role provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge from your studies to real-world contexts, enhancing your understanding of social justice and multicultural education.
Professional Development:This position offers numerous professional development opportunities. You will receive job-specific training provided by the DEIB department and participate in University-wide training events. Additionally, you will have access to multicultural-sponsored training activities, career exploration activities via Career Services, and resume reviews with Career Services and/or WorkSource Oregon. These experiences will help you build professional competencies such as leadership, communication, event planning, and teamwork, preparing you for diverse career paths.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Provide day-to-day operations and organizational tasks needed to run the SCMA program.
– Communicate information to SCMA council members regarding scheduled meetings, programs, forums, trainings, and other volunteer opportunities.
– Attend Student Fee Committee, Diversity Committee, and other necessary meetings that address issues related to diversity and inclusion.
– Manage office operations and procedures including budget, personnel records, supplies, equipment, scheduling, and facilitating meetings and trainings.
– Address general student inquiries and communications regarding SCMA and its programs.
– Manage calendar, coordinate schedules, and independently make appointments.
– Compose, prepare, and process general and confidential correspondence.
– Establish, organize, and maintain paper and computer file systems.
– Plan and coordinate meetings, programs, or events by securing locations, making arrangements, preparing information, agendas, and processing minutes.
– Research and develop resources to improve the program.
– Provide support for campus community events such as tabling at Preview Days, Mountaineer Days, class visits, student panels, and orientation programs.
– Assist with planning diversity programs and events and coordinate council member check-ins.
– Plan and present mini-trainings and workshops such as Safe Zone training and facilitating safe spaces.
– Show support for diversity clubs and organizations by being a resource, collaborating on events, and participating in activities.
– Serve on the Celebrate Educate & Appreciate Diversity (CEAD) Conference Planning Committee.
– Participate in EOU recruitment efforts and support SCMA meetings, trainings, conferences, and sponsored events.
– Serve as a resource and mentor for students struggling with issues involving social identity and cultural differences.
– Collaborate with ASEOU-Director of Diversity Affairs, Multicultural Center, ASEOU student organizations, and university departments on program initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:– Enrolled sophomore standing or above at Eastern Oregon University with a minimum 2.75 GPA.
– General office skills and proper phone etiquette.
– Good communication and interpersonal skills.
– Organizational skills and attention to detail.
– Ability to take initiative, lead meetings, and brainstorm ideas with students.
– Interest in diversity and multicultural education.
– Working knowledge of word processing, Excel, and PowerPoint creation.
– Sensitivity and solidarity with traditionally underrepresented groups.
– Flexible schedule to support program activities.
Preferred Qualifications:– Experience in leading or participating in diversity and inclusion initiatives.
– Previous involvement with student organizations focused on multicultural or social justice issues.
– Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute events and workshops related to diversity and inclusion.
– Experience managing social media platforms and content creation to enhance engagement and outreach.
