Experiential Leaning:As a Student Mentor for the Cottonwood Crossing Summer Institute, you will gain hands-on experience in educational program delivery, particularly in outdoor and environmental education settings. You will develop leadership, crisis management, and communication skills while applying educational theories and methods in real-world teaching scenarios.
Professional Development:This position offers numerous professional development opportunities. You will receive job-specific training provided by the REV Center and participate in University-wide training events. Additionally, you will have access to multicultural-sponsored training activities, career exploration activities via Career Services, and resume reviews with Career Services and/or WorkSource Oregon. These experiences will help you build professional competencies crucial for careers in education, environmental science, and related fields.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:– Work with EOU professors to coordinate daily workshop activities and final projects.
– Assist in managing outdoor classes.
– Assist in meal prep, cooking, and cleaning.
– Coordinate with other student mentors on scheduling and activities.
– Attend meetings with external partners as needed.
– Gather information and provide summaries as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:– In good academic standing and enrolled in 6-9 credit hours.
– Ability to spend large sections of time outdoors.
– Camping, fishing, and hiking experience.
Preferred Qualifications:– Experience working with youth.
– Experience camping and hiking.
– Ability to assist with teaching.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate student groups.
– Outdoor survival skills and the ability to teach and demonstrate these skills.
– First aid and CPR certified or willing to undergo certification provided by the institute.
