Experiential Leaning:As a Technical Services Student Assistant, you will gain hands-on experience in library operations and technical services. You will develop skills in data entry, resource management, and project support, providing an excellent opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge from your studies to real-world tasks. This role will enhance your understanding of library databases, management systems, and the day-to-day operations of a library.
Professional Development:This position offers numerous professional development opportunities. You will receive job-specific training provided by the Technical Processing/Acquisitions Department and participate in University-wide training events. Additionally, you will have access to multicultural-sponsored training activities, career exploration activities via Career Services, and resume reviews with Career Services and/or WorkSource Oregon. These experiences will help you build professional competencies such as organization, project management, and problem-solving, preparing you for diverse career paths.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Basic Functions:
-Use library software to receive in library materials.
-Provides routine data-entry about Library related transactions
Shelving of serials
-Refer complex questions to supervisor
-Assist library staff with projects as needed
Minimum Qualifications:– Federal Work Study Award.
– Enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate credits per term or a minimum of 9 graduate credit hours at the University or a University partner program/institution.
– In good academic standing (minimum GPA of 2.0).
– Ability to work 10-15 hours a week without exceeding a combination of 29 hours at this job or other University jobs.
Preferred Qualifications:– Previous library experience, particularly in technical services or acquisitions.
– Relevant coursework in library science, information management, or related fields.
– Technical proficiency with library databases and management systems, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
– Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize tasks efficiently.
– Keen attention to detail, especially in data entry and material handling.
– Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with team members and other university staff.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Communication and customer service skills when working with students, faculty, staff, and community patrons.
– Technology skills and ability to use library software systems.
– Ability to use Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
– Professional work ethic and independent time management skills.

– Flexibility and positive attitude about working in a changing environment.
– Detail-oriented on various tasks and projects.
– Prior work in a library, office, or similar work environment is preferred but not required.
