Experiential Leaning:As a DSO Note Taker, Mentor, Study Partner, or Tutor, you will gain practical experience in educational support roles. You will enhance your communication and critical thinking skills, deepen your knowledge in specific academic disciplines, and develop effective strategies for supporting students with diverse learning needs. This hands-on experience is invaluable for those considering careers in education, counseling, or related fields.
Professional Development:These roles provide a robust professional development experience. You will receive job-specific training and have opportunities to participate in University-wide training events. You will also be encouraged to engage in multicultural-sponsored training activities and career exploration events via Career Services. Additionally, you can take part in the EO Career Expo, Career-Ready symposium, and resume review sessions. These experiences will help you build professionalism, reliability, and teamwork skills, preparing you for diverse career paths.
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Note Taker: Take detailed, legible notes during class meetings and submit them promptly after classes.
Mentor: Assist students with organizational skills, school processes, and academic strategies.
Study Partner/Tutor: Work with students to review course materials, prepare for tests, and understand assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:– Must be in good academic standing.
– Enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours.
– Hold at least a “B” in any courses for which they serve as Note Takers, Mentors, Study Partners, or Tutors.
Preferred Qualifications:– Experience in tutoring, mentoring, or similar roles.
– Knowledgeable in specific academic disciplines for tutoring.
– Strong organizational and communication skills.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:– Follow campus regulations and local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and ordinances.
– Work with students one-on-one.
– Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
