As the Podcast Student Host & Writer, you’ll take center stage in creating compelling podcast episodes that inform and inspire students about career-related topics. In this role, you’ll develop scripts, conduct interviews, and help shape the Career Talk Podcast, working in a dynamic and creative studio environment. Experiential Learning: | As the Podcast Student Host & Writer, you will develop essential communication and storytelling skills while gaining hands-on experience in professional media production. You will learn how to research career-related topics, craft engaging interview questions, and conduct conversations that provide valuable insights to listeners. Through this role, you will refine your ability to structure content, write compelling scripts, and guide discussions in a way that keeps audiences engaged. Additionally, you will gain firsthand experience coordinating guest interviews, managing podcast scheduling, and working closely with a production team to ensure high-quality content. By engaging with industry professionals and career experts, you will not only enhance your ability to facilitate meaningful discussions but also expand your understanding of career exploration and workforce trends. |
Professional Development: | EOU student employees have an opportunity to engage in professional development and training as a part of the job. Supervisors support the attainment of professional development by either providing internal department-specific training and/or time reassigned from normally scheduled duties to participate in University-wide training opportunities including appropriate virtual community training opportunities. Specific training/professional development opportunities: – Paid time to engage in self-directed learning about podcast content development. – Podcast studio equipment training (microphones, headsets) – Career exploration activities via Career Services. – EO Career Expo Career-Ready & Work-Search Clinics First Wednesday in April. – Resume Review with Career Services and/or WorkSource Oregon. |
Summary of Job Duties/Responsibilities/Essential Functions: | – Research and develop podcast episode topics related to student employment and career development. – Write episode outlines, scripts, and interview questions to guide engaging discussions. – Coordinate the podcast studio schedule and manage guest interviews. – Prepare guests for interviews, ensuring they feel comfortable and ready for discussions. – Host podcast episodes, including introductions, transitions, and closings. – Engage in professional conversations with guests, adapting when discussions take unexpected turns. – Collaborate with the Podcast Student Technician to ensure high-quality production. – Investigate ways to integrate podcast content with social media platforms. |
Minimum Qualifications: | – Currently enrolled at EOU with at least 6 credits (undergraduate) or 9 credits (graduate). – In good academic standing (GPA 2.0 or higher). – Pass a background check pending employment offer. – Demonstrated interest in media, journalism, storytelling, or broadcasting. – Ability to engage audiences with enthusiasm, energy, and a positive tone. |
Preferred Qualifications: | – Experience conducting interviews and leading discussions. – Familiarity with podcasting workflows. – Completion of or enrollment in communication courses related to interviewing, digital media, or content creation. |
