Prior to coming to EOU Dave taught in the Bend-La Pine School system for 8 years. Before moving to Bend he taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools in New Mexico for 9 years. While teaching in Albuquerque, Dave was also an education supervisor in the College of Education at The University of New Mexico. Additionally, Dave spent 8 years in the Dean of Students office at The University of New Mexico in a supervisory and instructor role. From 2012 through 2020, Dave has also served as a mentor for Chaos Theory, the Robotics team at Summit High School, which has represented the Pacific Northwest Region at the World Competition in 2017, 2018, and 2019. He has a passion for outdoor education and has received numerous grants during his time both in Bend and Albuquerque to develop river, riparian, and garden classroom study projects.

Dave received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Design from The University of New Mexico. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and an ESL endorsement from The College of Santa Fe. Additionally, he has a Master of Science in Teaching from Emporia State University in Kansas. He also has a Reading Instruction Certificate and a Writing Instruction Certificate from the Teachers College Summer Institute Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University in New York. This past year he has been an Senior Instructor II and Education Supervisor in the College of Education at EOU, and is director for Teach Rural Oregon and the Eastern Oregon Teacher Academy.

In his spare time, Dave enjoys mountain and gravel bike riding, cyclocross, Nordic skiing, hiking and swimming. He also enjoys spending time on projects around the house and in the garden. Dave and his wife Angie make their home in a rural area outside Sisters and have two grown boys as well as two dogs.
