Dr. Lee Ann McNerney is an Associate Professor of Education at Eastern Oregon University at the Gresham campus. She grew up in Woodburn, Oregon and was a part of the first pilot Bilingual Education program in Oregon. At the age of 6 she began learning Spanish. She holds a B.A. in Spanish from Portland State University, a M.A. from Columbia University Teachers College in Bi-lingual Education and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University. She has lived and worked in three different Spanish speaking countries. She served in the Peace Corps for two and half years in the Dominican Republic. She is the author of “Classroom Writing Activities for K-12 and Adult Second Language Learners” and “Creating a Multi-Cultural, Student-Centered Classroom.” She is also doing research on brain injured adults whose speech has been impacted by Aphasia. Her extra- curricular activities include traveling abroad, reading, swimming, camping, and watching sports on television. She also volunteers in Spanish speaking organizations.
