Starting A New Club

We are excited that you are interested in starting up a new club at Eastern Oregon University!

More than 50 clubs and organizations exist at EOU. There are clubs that range from academic to recreational and social to cultural in order to meet the needs of a variety of student populations at EOU. If you decide after surveying the list of clubs that are currently recognized and none meet your needs, you may want to start a new one to share with other EOU students. Here’s how:

  1. Meet with the Center for Student Involvement to discuss your idea for the club, its purpose and how to begin.
  2. Any person(s) interested in starting a new club may do so in either the Fall or Winter term.
  3. Each potential club needs to have an EOU Faculty/Staff member selected as an advisor for the club. The faculty/staff member is selected by the students, but needs to have permission from their supervisor prior to serving.
  4. Put together a constitution for the club that highlights purpose, functionality, etc. We have a sample constitution format for groups to use as they start forming.
  5. Select a time/date to hold an interest meeting so you can gauge other student interest and gather potential members for future meetings and activities.
  6. Schedule the room/space for meeting through Events Scheduling (Hoke Student Union #315 – schedule@eou.edu)
  7. If you find 6 interested students, hold elections for officers (dependent on which positions are highlighted in the constitution).
  8. Fill out the club’s Intent to be Active (ITBA) on the Student Involvement website and attach the club’s 4 year plan.
  9. Once the Intent to be Active (ITBA) is submitted and approved through our office, you’ll be able to hold events/activities, request funding for your club, post flyers, book spaces, etc.

 After those steps are completed, we’ll get in contact with you to make sure you are on the right path toward success and answer any additional questions you may have.
