IMPACT Training

IMPACT Equity Training for Faculty & Staff

Program Description:

The faculty and staff professional development program at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is designed to equip educators and staff with justice-centered pedagogical skills and practices. This program fosters a deep understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism while providing the tools needed to implement culturally informed and equitable approaches in the classroom and across campus.

By focusing on deconstructing traditional educational theories and developing strategies that align with equity minded principles, the program aims to create a supportive, inclusive learning environment where all students, faculty and staff can thrive.

OBJECTIVESSTRUCTURE & TIME COMMITTMENT
Justice-Centered Pedagogy: Enable faculty and staff to explore and apply justice-centered pedagogy and practices, ensuring their teaching and support methods are both equitable and culturally responsive.

Analyzing Educational Theories: Encourage participants to critically analyze and challenge traditional educational paradigms, fostering new approaches that prioritize equity mindedness, social justice and cultural awareness.

Implementing Equitable Practices: Provide faculty and staff with the skills to develop and implement rigorous, equitable educational practices that address institutional inequities and promote student success.

Building a Community of Practice: Foster a collaborative environment among educators and staff, creating a continuous cycle of improvement, shared learning, and support to enhance institutional equity.

Institutional Equity and Belonging: Equip faculty and staff with practical skills for identifying and addressing inequities in institutional processes and procedures, while enhancing their confidence and sense of belonging.

Integrating Staff and Faculty Insights: Promote institutional commitment to equity by incorporating the insights and experiences of faculty and staff into leadership and decision-making processes, ensuring that all voices contribute to building an inclusive campus culture.
SESSION STRUCTURE:
Each Session is bifurcated into two distinct yet interrelated parts.

The first part of each session invites participants to wrestle with DEI/REIJ theories, concepts, and definitions.

The second half of each session invites participants to put these DEI/REIJ theories, concepts, and definitions into practice by using the IMPACT Equity Framework* as a tool to vet institutionalized policies, procedures, and pedagogies in order to ensure commensurability with equity and justice.

TIME COMMITMENT:
In order for participants to receive a Certificate of Completion from Rooted in Love, they are required to attend all the In-Person Training Orientation sessions as well as a minimum of three of the four virtual sessions.
