CEAD Conference 2025

CEAD Conference

May 3, 2025

The CEAD Conference invites participants to reflect on how we connect with others, question assumptions, and expand our understanding of a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives. Attendees will explore how communication shapes relationships and discover tools to foster empathy, reduce misunderstandings, and recognize the value of individual and collective stories.

As part of Eastern Oregon University’s commitment to preparing students for thoughtful leadership in a complex and interconnected world, this conference welcomes all EOU students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Conference Goals

We’re excited to welcome back Dr. Jeremiah Sims, last year’s keynote speaker, whose work continues to encourage meaningful connection and personal growth. His keynote address will focus on how radically humanizing communication can help build trust, deepen relationships, and support environments where everyone feels respected and valued.

Through both the keynote and interactive sessions, participants will walk away with practical strategies to:

  • Practice authentic communication grounded in empathy, clarity, and mutual respect
  • Understand how communication patterns influence relationships and our shared campus culture
  • Develop skills to navigate conflict with compassion, create trust, and build spaces where people feel supported and heard

Student Learning Outcomes

The CEAD Conference supports EOU’s mission to prepare students for leadership rooted in thoughtful reflection and engagement. Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Deepen their understanding of how social dynamics—such as access, influence, and representation—impact individuals and communities
  • Explore how personal experiences and cultural influences shape beliefs, behaviors, and decision-making
  • Strengthen their ability to engage in respectful conversations that bridge differences and encourage connection
  • Practice listening and communication techniques that promote understanding, trust, and collaboration

The CEAD Conference offers a unique opportunity for participants to broaden their worldview, challenge their perspectives, and build skills that contribute to strong, healthy relationships—on campus and beyond.
