IDEAL Training

IDEAL Professional Development for Students

Program Description:

The DEIB Professional Development for students and student leaders is designed to explore and address the structures and cultures within higher education that impact holistic student learning. The program emphasizes love as praxis, serving as a framework to empower students to create a welcoming and inclusive campus environment.  By centering on the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, the program aims to build a sustainable community where all individuals, particularly those from underserved populations, can thrive.

Through a tailored curriculum that incorporates critical reflection, practical tools, and community engagement, the program seeks to increase student retention and engagement while fostering institutional transformation grounded in love, empathy, and justice.

Each Session is bifurcated into two distinct yet interrelated parts. The first part of each session invites participants to wrestle with DEI/REIJ theories, concepts, and definitions.

The second half of each session invites participants to put these DEI/REIJ theories, concepts, and definitions into practice by using the IMPACT Equity Framework* as a tool to vet institutionalized policies, procedures, and pedagogies in order to ensure commensurability with equity and justice.

Time Commitment: In order for participants to receive a Certificate of Completion from Rooted in Love, they are required to attend all the In-Person Training Orientation sessions as well as a minimum of three of the four virtual sessions.
