LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University welcomes presidential candidate Rodney Scott Hanley, Ph.D., on Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28. Hanley will spend a day and a half in La Grande meeting with EOU students, faculty and staff, interacting with business and community leaders, and touring the campus.
Hanley currently serves as President of Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. At Lake Superior, he developed the university’s five-year strategic plan with a focus on environmental sustainability and expanded the number of students conducting environmental sustainability-related research. Hanley also oversaw the building of a $14.5 million Center for Freshwater Research and Education.
During his career, Hanley has led enrollment management efforts and redesigned recruiting processes, created new academic programs and schools, and engaged in government relations work and fundraising initiatives. He is the recipient of several awards and distinctions including the Colonel Aide de Camp from the State of Tennessee, and the Save-A-Student award from the Educational Equal Opportunity Group.
Prior to Lake Superior, Hanley served in numerous leadership positions, including Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee; as Provost and Vice President (Academic) with Lakehead University in Canada; as acting Vice-President (Research, Economic Development, and Innovation) with Lakehead University; and as Dean of Science at the University of Winnipeg, Canada.
Members of the public are invited to meet Hanley at an open forum on Thursday, April 27 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Huber Auditorium located in the Badgley Science Center on the EOU campus.
