The Early Literacy Success Initiative (created by House Bill 3198) provides grants to schools across Oregon that will provide funding for professional development and coaching in evidence-aligned literacy strategies. Eastern Oregon University Reading Clinic, in partnership with the Schuberth/Urang Family, is thrilled to offer online teacher training, Building a Strong Foundation in Literacy, aligned to reading science, that is affordable and accessible for any teacher, school, or district in Oregon beginning in January 2024.
Our training program can equip your teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to develop proficient readers in your classrooms and schools!
Our online teacher training program contains the following learning modules:
· Intro to the Science of Reading
· Oral Language & Phonology
· Phonics & Word Study
· Creating Fluent Readers
· Developing Vocabulary
· Increasing Reading Comprehension
The EOU Reading Clinic Online Teacher Training also includes a facilitator guide that will allow districts to build capacity within their own schools to support teachers as they learn to apply reading science in their classrooms. Additionally, schools have the freedom to determine the pacing of training that works best for their schools and teachers.
Teachers who complete the EOU Reading Clinic Online Teacher Training, Building a Strong Foundation in Literacy, can receive 3 graduate credits (at an additional cost of $200/credit) that will be accepted toward EOU’s fully online asynchronous Graduate Reading Intervention Endorsement program should they choose to extend their learning beyond the online training.
