EOU Military Financial Assistance Programs for Degree-Seeking Students

Service to Country:

  • Eligibility: Be currently serving in the US Armed Forces or be a National Guard or Reserves enlistee or be released from service from one of the aforementioned branches of service under a condition other than dishonorable. Be enrolled in a minimum of 6-credits at EOU, have at least 51% of your credits in on-campus courses and demonstrate military benefit eligibility for the term in which they’re applying for.
  • Award:  Covers remaining in-state tuition for anything not paid by other VA Benefit programs, scholarships and/or grants up to 15-credits per term.
  • Application Process: Submit Service to Country Application and a copy of your DD-214 or provide proof of active Military Service to Financial Aid Personnel at time of submission

Service to Country – Spouse of qualified military member

Active Duty Military Award

  • Eligibility: Available to all Active Duty members of the military. Students must be taking 100% online undergraduate coursework. Students must submit paperwork for Tuition Assistance benefits through their branch of the military.
  • Award: Covers the remaining amount of tuition, after tuition assistance benefits are applied each term. Students will be notified each term of the award amount.
  • Application Process: Automatically awarded based on the submission of Tuition Assistance paperwork through the third party billing desk in the student accounts office.

Yellow Ribbon

  • Eligibility: Individuals entitled to the 100% benefit rate based on service requirements OR spouses and children using Transfer of Entitlement (ToE) benefits when entitled to the 100% benefit rate.
  • Award:  Covers the difference between “in-state” and “out-of-state” tuition costs.
  • Application Process: Automatically awarded based on criteria

Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants *

Like other Federal grants, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants provide money to college or career school students to help pay their education expenses. However, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants have special eligibility criteria. Eligible students include:

  • you are not eligible for a Federal Pell Grant on the basis of your Student Aid Index but
  • meet the remaining Federal Pell Grant eligibility requirements, and
  • your parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. armed forces and died as a result of military service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after the events of 9/11, and
  • you were under 24 years old or enrolled in college at least part-time at the time of your parent’s or guardian’s death.

Veterans United Foundation Scholarship *

Veterans United Foundation, formed and fully funded by Veterans United Home Loans and its employees, strives to enhance lives by recognizing the selfless contributions of service members and their families through support of such individuals in need.  The program’s primary goal is to assist military service members and their families by awarding up to twenty $2,000 scholarships to help pay for tuition and books each semester.

Veterans Dependent Tuition Waiver;*

  • Eligible to students who meet the criteria as outlined in the program.
  • The waiver is a last dollar award after all grant and scholarship aid and applies towards tuition only.
  • Application is due to the Veterans’ Clerk Certifying Official no later than 14 days prior to the applying term.

Oregon National Guard State Tuition Assistance *

Eligible to current Oregon National Guard Members –  To provide funding for tuition at Oregon community colleges (up to 90 credits) and public universities (up to 180 credits).  For more information and detailed eligibility requirements, please go to https://oregonstudentaid.gov/state-tuition-assistance.aspx

The Darlene Hooley Scholarship for Oregon National Guard and Reserves *

This scholarship is to support eligible students who are attending an Oregon educational institution of higher learning and have served or are serving in support of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Eligible applicants must be currently serving or previously served in the Oregon National Guard or in a Military Reserve Component after 9/11 and deployed overseas supporting the GWOT.

This is a need based scholarship and the amount awarded (up to $3000 per academic year) will be determined by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The funds awarded are to be used to support the costs of attendance while enrolled in an Oregon educational institution of higher learning.
