Fulbright Scholarships

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program expands perspectives through academic and professional advancement and cross-cultural dialogue. Fulbright creates connections in a complex and changing world. In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.


Freeman Scholarships

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.


German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The Gilman-DAAD Scholarships enable young students from low-income US families to spend short periods of time in Germany.


Gilman Scholarships

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. To be eligible for the Gilman Program, applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship. The Institute of International Education has administered the program since its inception in 2001.


Boren Awards

In December 1991, the President signed the National Security Education Act into law. The Act established the National Security Education Program, the National Security Education Board, and the National Security Education Trust Fund. Today, the National Security Education Program, under the guidance of the National Security Education Board, continues to carry out its mission to serve as a leader in developing the national capacity to educate United States citizens to:

  • Understand foreign cultures
  • Strengthen U.S. economic competitiveness
  • Enhance international cooperation and security

Boren Scholars and Fellows study a wide range of critical languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, and Swahili. Boren Awards are available to students of all proficiency levels who are committed to enhancing their skills.


Phi Kappa Phi, Study Abroad

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. One hundred twenty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year.

Applicants do not have to be Society members but must attend an institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter.
