EOU invites first-year and international transfer students to apply for a fully-funded academic bridge program focused on scholarly inquiry and academic success. Students selected for this unique field-based program will earn two free college credits during the program, with the option to earn a third free credit fall term.

Program dates: September 3 – 14, 2024

Priority application deadline: July 1, 2024. Late applications will continue to be accepted as space remains available. After July 1, please email cbrewste@eou.edu to indicate your interest in the program.

Costs covered by EOU: Campus housing and meals, books, tuition, and field trip fees for all students.

Pre-Session Commitment: All students enrolled in the bridge program will be asked to read Beth Piatote’s short story collection The Beadworkers and complete a series of informal journal entries related to the program theme prior to arrival. Books and other required course materials will be mailed to students starting in June.

Bridging into University Life

Working from the theme “Stories of Place,” students selected for this two-week program get to know faculty, staff, students, and community members from across the region while learning more about the different fields of study represented at the university and how different kinds of knowledge are pursued and applied.

Students work especially closely with writing and math faculty throughout the program, researching the diverse places we call home while receiving additional support and practice in college-level reading, writing, thinking, and mathematical problem solving before the start of fall term.

Designed in collaboration with the Office of Student Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, this program also intentionally supports non-native speakers of English and BIPOC, international, Pacific Island, and undocumented students’ transition to EOU.

Our goal is a smooth, supportive, and engaging transition into university life for all students, building a strong foundation and community on which students can continue to draw throughout the academic year.
